Dental Care Checkups for Kids

Pediatric dentists and pediatricians recommend that all children see a dentist for their first checkup by their 1st birthday (or when their first tooth comes in, whichever takes place first.)

Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, our family dentist Dr. Garcia and our staff will provide important services during their six-month checkups, such as:

Protective Sealants to Block Out Cavities

Sealants make it possible to stop cavities before they start. Molars (back teeth) are more cavity-prone because of the deep grooves in them, and children have a harder time keeping them clean. Placing a sealant over those tiny fissures and pits blocks out acids and food particles, making it easier to clean them with a toothbrush.

Fluoride Treatments

A natural mineral, fluoride is found in everything from tap water to the foods we eat. Using it as a direct supplemental treatment can help strengthen teeth and even remineralize enamel that’s prone to decay. Our Houston children’s dentist recommends a fluoride treatment after every checkup.

If your child or teen is cavity prone, we can write a prescription for a special gel to use at home. This concentration of fluoride is especially useful for kids in braces!

Dental Fillings for ChildreN

Did you know that tooth decay is the most common childhood disease? If not caught early enough, cavities spread rapidly through children’s teeth, because they aren’t as dense as adult enamel.

Dr. Garcia uses tooth colored restorations to provide smaller, minimally invasive fillings in baby teeth. These treatments help stop cavities from spreading, limiting the chances of premature tooth loss and other complications.

Preventing Dental Emergencies Before They Start

When it comes to pediatric dentistry, routine preventative care can lower your child’s risk of cavities and dental emergencies.

At Fabulous Dentistry, we work closely with children and parents to incorporate smart oral hygiene strategies to significantly reduce the chances of decay, broken teeth, and abscesses.

Why are Baby Teeth Important?

Your child’s primary (baby) teeth are vital when it comes to the development of their adult smile. Losing a tooth prematurely due to an abscess or cavity can permanently alter the eruption patterns and alignment of their overall bite.

Fabulous Dentistry works with parents to help their children preserve their natural smile for as long as nature intended. If an extraction is necessary, a temporary space maintainer or other appliance can help to prevent orthodontic complications.
