Need a Houston Orthodontist?
At Fabulous Dentistry, we offer in-house orthodontics for adults, teens, and children. When you need an orthodontic consultation, second opinion, or treatment option, everything is available under one roof.
Health Benefits of Braces
Straighter teeth look great, but they also reduce your chances of developing problems like:
• Gum disease
• Periodontal disease
• TMJ disorder
• Migraines
• Gum recession and bone loss
• Premature tooth wear
• Broken or chipped teeth
Aligning your teeth allows them to function more efficiently, as nature intended. When you bite and chew without having to make irregular motions, it limits the strain on your TMJ and surrounding muscles.
Am I Too Old for Braces?
Absolutely not! Adults make great candidates for braces in Houston, because they’re invested in their smiles. We know that when you make the commitment to straighten your teeth, you’ll pay close attention to your home care, enhancing the health of your teeth and gums in the overall scheme of things.
Straightening your teeth with adult braces can prevent damage to your existing dental work, improve the appearance of your smile, and help you plan for upcoming cosmetic treatments like veneers.
Our Houston dentist offers cosmetic (ceramic) braces options, which blend in with your teeth. That way when you talk or smile, they’re less noticeable to the people around you.
Plus, if you only want to straighten the teeth at the front of your mouth (the ones you see when you smile,) you won’t have to wear your braces for as long as individuals who need comprehensive orthodontics.
Does My Child Need Braces?
Most orthodontists recommend an orthodontic evaluation by the time children reach the age of 7. At this stage of development, your child has a combination of adult and baby teeth, giving Dr. Garcia a preview of what their smile will look like in the future.
If needed, early orthodontic intervention or growth modification can be used to encourage proper oral development and reduce the extent of orthodontic therapy later on.
For example, Dr. Garcia may recommend interceptive techniques like space maintainer, “Phase I” braces, or a palatal expander.
By the time all of your child’s baby teeth have fallen out, comprehensive (or “Phase II”) metal or ceramic braces are recommended if there’s an obvious need for them. Our Houston family dentist may recommend orthodontic therapy if your child is affected by a situation such as:
• Open bite
• Overbite or overjet
• Underbite
• Crowding
• Gaps between teeth
• Impacted teeth
• Speech concerns
• Difficulty eating
• Embarrassment or self-confidence issues
After Wearing Braces
Getting your braces off is an exciting time. However, your teeth have a tendency to want to go back to where they came from, due to the muscle memory around them.
Dr. Garcia will fit you with a special retainer to wear, preserving your new tooth spacing and position. In the beginning you may need to wear it every day; later on, it might only be at night. If for any reason you lose or break your retainer, let us know right away.
